Happy 4th of July!

This is our first 4th in Minneapolis w/o our brothers in town so it was kind sad, but we found plenty of things to do to keep us busy as it was very hot!! In the 90s! Friday hardly anyone went to work so we were both able to leave early. We biked downtown to the sculpture garden, attempted to get in the Twins baseball game but it was sold out (bummer!) so we had pizza then biked home to take George for a walk and watch a movie. Saturday we went to the lake for the day. I packed a cooler for lunch and we sat in our chairs and read for the day. George was with us too, he went for a couple swims in the lake which he was not a fan of (see video, too funny). After lunch we wnet home then took a bike ride to uptown/Calhoun square. Checked out the new apple store which is pretty cool, got some ice cream and walked around awhile. Then went up to Blaine to see the Collins and some friends from Target for a BBQ and yard games. Sunday we went to church, Tyler golfed, then we went for a bike ride to get some lunch and see the waterfalls at Minnehaha falls. It was a great day for it, put about 25 miles on the bikes this weekend thus far which was been fun. I've learned the key to getting Ty out for a ride with me is to incorporate some type of food somewhere!! :) Hope everyone has a great 4th. We are hoping to catch the firework display downtown tonight and do a lot of cleaning and relaxing tomorrow. We still wish we could have seen some of you over the weekend but look forward to seeing everyone soon.

  1. The videos were pretty hilarious. We don't think George is a water dog. Dancer never was either. Sounds like you had a very nice 4th of July. Nice talking to you today Katie & it will be nice that you can see your family over the next few w/ends. We look forward to watching George in late July, early Aug. Have a good day off tomorrow and rest of your week. Talk to you soon. Dan & Brett xx oo

  2. Enjoyed the post of G and Kate in the water. Dan is right he is not a water dog. I like how he moves his legs when he is not even in the water. Mom and I had a nice visit with the Helwigs on July 4. Hope you and G and Ty have a good week. Happy Birthday to America. Love Dad

  3. Happy Birthday America to you too honey!! Love Mister George in the water!! Sounds like a busy, fun and relaxing weekend. Agree, this is our first 4th without kids at home too. We had a great time with Ted and Dawn though and are glad to start getting back together with them now that their kids are all grown up too. We shared alot of funny memories of all of you growing up and of course we had lots of food for the weekend. Enjoyed sitting out on our deck. The weather was hot, but it felt good to be outside.

I did a couple of 6 mile bike rides over the weekend. Tried to call all of you but of course only get voice mail--not sure why all of you pay for phone service!!

Matt was moving to his new apartment this weekend so Michael and maybe Andrew were helping him out. I will try to call everyone again tonight to see how it went.

Looking forward to having you home soon. Take care. Love you both
